Perth Winter Highlights: Sport, Arts & Culture
There’s no denying it – Australia loves the AFL, and the two teams representing Perth certainly do us Westerners proud.
With multiple premierships under their belt, the West Coast Eagles is a standout team. Playing at their home ground Domain Stadium, they attract huge local crowds and an army of fans that follow them around the country for away games.
Fremantle Dockers make up the second WA team. Calling the port city of Fremantle home, the team has been coming into its own since its induction to the national league in 1993. A team steeped in history, the Dockers have been the local favourite since the birth of WAFL, hosting the first game in Western Australia back in 1881.
Make the most of Perth’s AFL game day at Domain Stadium, Subiaco with a stay at Crowne Plaza Perth. Enjoy a beer at Gusti Restaurant & Bar before heading to the game. Check the 2017 Toyota AFL Premiership Season fixture here.
Voted best pitch in Australia by The Professional Footballers Australia Organisation and players in the A-League, NIB Stadium is located at 310 Pier St, Perth, just a few kilometres from Crowne Plaza Perth.
Check for key dates and game fixtures here. With speculation that the team may fold at the end of this season, you won’t want to miss out on the opportunity to see this Perth team play what may be one of their final home games this season.
Also hosted at NIB Stadium, the NRL never fails to disappoint a roaring crowd. It doesn’t come often but when it does the Perth NRL fans come out in droves to catch the excitement of the National Rugby League with over 15 thousand people turning out for last year’s game when the Rabbitos took on the Titans.
